Busy Bee

This week has been ridiculously busy for me. Travelling from Notts to my home town, to London, then back to my home town and then finally back up to Notts. The purpose of going home was for a course trip to London.

On wednesday I went to London. The main reason for visiting London was to see an exhibition at the V&A - Postmodernism: Style and subversion 1970-1990. It was really insightful and as you can tell, was based on postmodernism. The exhibition included paintings, graphics, clothing, sculptures and so much more. I would definitely recommend going to see it if your interested in postmodernism. For information click here.

The second reason for going to London was to see the Dazed and Confused exhibition at Somerset house. The exhibition was to celebrate their 20th anniversary. It was really quite visually appealing as it had all the covers that the magazine had done. Famous faces such as Beyonce, Kate Moss, Agyness Deyn and even Kanye West are amongst but a few who have graced the cover.

After doing all this, I also managed to create a tumblr account. Having tried various times before and failing miserably I'm quite pleased with this one. Have a look for yourself: http://amberxjade.tumblr.com/

This week has been all about shopping for me. I've treated myself to some new items for my winter wardrobe.  My favourite item has to be the topshop creepers. I've wanted some for ages but a lack of money means that I've not been able to get any, absolute bargain for £34.

Isabel Marant loves the XFactor

Silk Print dress £695

Silk Print dress £695

Jake blouse £325
Jia printed Silk-georgette mini skirt £335

cheryl cole isabel marant trousers

Renell embroidered skinny jeans £395

With the Xfactor season in full bloom, Isabel Marant has created some pieces that have the iconic 'X' featuring on them. An innovative idea, as the new seasons have both kicked off in the US & UK. The collection even has Cheryl Cole's approval, with her sporting the denim jeans. With the rest of her collection showing a wild west theme, it is not known why she went for the X factor pattern. Perhaps she's a fan of the show, or has done a deal with Mr Simon Cowell.

Shop the rest of the collection here.

P.S Sorry for my lack of blogging recently. Trying to juggle uni and a job (& a social life) is proving a little tricky at the moment but I promise to get better.

Couldn't resist

Ahead of tomorrows premier of Gossip Girl season 5, I couldn't resist doing a sneaky blog about it. Anyone who knows me, knows I am a huge fan of the Upper East side drama. having visited New York in January, I am very familiar with some of the filming destinations.

Romeo & Juliet Couture have come up with a few Gossip Girl inspired dresses and clothing. The dresses are centred on my two favourite girl characters, Serena and Blair and reflect their characters well. If only I wasn't a broke student and could afford a dress (or two).

Following the untimely death of the late, great, Corrine Day, her work is being showcased in an exhibition to honour her. Her photography, deemed to be provocative, has made fashion photography history. She is thought to be the woman responsible for launching Kate Moss's successful modelling career, with her characteristic Summer of Love shoot for The face magazine (1990). Her work is iconic to her and can easily be spotted. Her photography will no doubt be remembered forever and used as great examples of black and white photos.

Eye Of The World Designs - A/W 11 collaboration with Knitwear Designer Brooke Roberts

Whilst browsing the internet for some chic, cool knitwear for the winter (yes I like to plan ahead), I came across Eyes of the world designs collaboration with knitwear designer Brooke Roberts. Eye of the world designs is run by Liam Motyer and Hope Von Joel. They create accessories with the primary material being wood. All of the pieces are made in London and are crafted and finished by hand. Each accessory is different to the next as different types of wood are used and finished off with a interior design/furniture feel.

The current collection is a collaboration with Brooke Roberts. This includes belts buckles, hats, jigsaw belts and perspex pieces. Together, both the knitwear and the wooden accessory's, complement each other well. This is in terms of the geometric patterns on the knitwear with the geometric shapes on the accessorys. The wood just frames the shapes in the knitwear so well. I never really saw wood as being a great material to accessorize with but Eye of the world designs have done just that, and so well too.

Low Luv x Erin Wasson

Supermodel Erin Wasson has designer her own collection of jewellery. The jewellery is very distinctive, I especially love the hammered triangle body chain. The collection is unique and really reflects Erin's personal style. There's definitely a gothic and vintage and feel within the jewellery. The full collection is available here.

American Gold AW11

I fell in love with American Gold ever since I did my photographic brief on it. If you aren't aware American Gold is a brand created by Suzanne Ford Carafano which documents her personal travels around America.
From the Native Red Indian to the country wild west, you can clearly see the story behind each outfit. This is what makes it so special, each piece is individual and nothing like I have seen before. The collection definitely has a vintage feel to it.  In short, American Gold is an American girl’s celebration of the rich and varied culture that makes her country great.

House of Hello Kitty by Swarovski

Any body who knows me, knows that I am a lover of all things Hello Kitty. Imagine my excitement when I found about the "House of Hello Kitty" presented by Swarovski.

Austrian crystal brand Swarovski teamed up with Hello Kitty to produce 31 limited edition items. This ranged from a pendant and charm of a bejeweled Hello Kitty in a black dress, dangly earrings featuring Kitty’s signature red bow, and a Kitty face ring. The collection is available now in Japan with international sales starting in August.

The range has featured in the "House of Hello Kitty" event which took place in Omotesando Hills in Tokyo. If only I lived in Tokyo to be able to see the event in all its glory. Nethertheless, the pictures will have to do.
